The cutwall spambot

Wow what a nasty little Trojan/rootkit/spambot this is. Took a full day to get rid of it. AVG found the virus but was unable to get rid of it fully, this thing takes over your windows filesystem and hides itself in multiple files. I even read stories that a full format wouldn't fully remove it and a subsequent fresh install of windows would allow it to start all over again.

Eventually I decided to use avast. After a lot of googling (on a non infected Linux box) it suggested this was the program to use. Avast had a great boottime scanner which gave the filesystem a thorough scan and is reminicent of the chkdsk utility. This flagged tons of infected files and after a couple of hours the machine booted back into windows.

After logging in All hell broke loose and avast started flagging multiple problems prompting me to fix the new issues it had found. In my haste I decided to use "delete" rather than heal. It chewed through and after another couple of hours it had finished the scan. I decided to reboot and see if all was well.

Windows wouldn't boot, dos splash screen cycling away. Avast had done a good job however in doing so must have killed a lot of critical system files.

So out came the XP install disk, reinstalled, opted to repair the exisiting installation and eventually a healthy machine!!

1 whole day.

MacBook dead again

Really... Apple charge a premium for rubbish! If it takes 4 weeks to fix again I think I will jump off the roof of their regents street store to prove a point.

Won't even turn on. Just beeps at me... 3 short, 3 long, 3 short. Logic board gone, and it's a new one.

Piece of crap.

eBay the reality

I like to sell old tech and other things that I don't need or care for every so often.. eBay is the obvious choice as it's exposure and dominance in this area means I can get my hands on cash sooner.

There are problems however with the way it charges for this service. I get access to my cash when I sell something but the sale price and the exact amount I get back is another matter! And the delays with paypal mean they must be earning some nice interest on our money while we wait for feedback or a 5 day transfer to your bank account!

Extorsion, delays and percentages are what this company does best. They could still make plenty of money with smaller costs passed onto the seller.

Goodbye eBay. Stick your "Powerseller" where the sun doesnt shine.

Audi R8 - does anyone agree with me that its really ugly?

I dont like it.

looks like a humbug on wheels with this tacky clip on panel afterthought behind the door which breaks up the entire flow of its already dubious curves. Maybe it resembles the TT too closely up front and then you walk around to the back (trying to avoid being sick in your throat as you see that panel again in the corner of your eye) to the rear which looks like its been lifted straight from the gallardo parts bin.

In essence its a chop shop. The chassis has been welded together from these two cars with a disfigured result. Im sure if you looked hard enough you would find different VIN numbers under the bonnet and in the trunk. The side panel; which i still have no idea if it serves any purpose, is a nice big scar on the side to remind you that Dr Frankenstein is alive and well and working in the Audi Design department in Ingolstadt.

R8 = plain nasty!
I do like the S5 coupe though...

Does anyone else feel this passionatly about hating it? and forget the "just because you cant afford one" BS.

Broken cogs

When does an individual become so destructive for a company that the only thing left to do is to remove them from the mix? Without making it a witchhunt or a personal attack it is up to the collective to make an informed and objective decision to move forward and go through the correct procedures in order to survive and perform at it's best.

It's hard when you are dealing with an individual, you are very aware that they have commitments and needs. What you have to remember foremost is the remaining group that have exactly the same needs.

It's like the cliche hollywood film.
